“My name is Obie Hunt and I'm a 72 year old senior. I have been going to the senior centers for almost eight years now. Although, I live in the Bronx, I have visited the Leonard Covello center several times over the years. I used to play chess when I was younger but had gotten out of it, years ago. I have wanted to get back into it. Besides having interest, I felt it's an excellent brain exercise. Many members of my family have suffered from dementia and I think it's an excellent way to combat it. When I used to play chess, years ago I thought I was pretty good and I was okay but I've since learned things I've never considered before. I used to think it was all calculation but since taking instruction, from the two brothers I've learned about pattern recognition. I'm not quite there yet but I feel the more I learn at the center, the more I'll become acquainted with chess patterns and become an even better player. I thank the program for what I've been able to learn so far.”

“Knights of the Square table has given our older adults an opportunity to stimulate their minds and bring them closer to the local community. It has been such a pleasure seeing the older adults feel enriched and supported by Benjamin and his team of talented chess players!”
